On Saturday, hubby and I took a little road trip south... we were headed to a Red Wings playoff game, but on the way we stopped at Meijer Gardens. A 125 acre park of wetlands, woodlands, meadows and gardens designed by world-renowned landscape artists in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
There's certainly something for everyone at the gardens: an outdoor sculpture park, a tropical conservatory -- including a butterfly garden, carnivorous plant house, boardwalk, children's garden, farm garden, concert amphitheater, etc.
We could have spent an entire day at the gardens, but we only had a few hours. What we saw was impressive. We do plan to go back when we can spend more time. Believe it or not, hubby and I walked through the butterfly garden! Those of you that know me, know that I consider a butterfly just a big bug with pretty wings... and I don't mix well with bugs!!!! Hubby was pretty impressed that I stepped out of my comfort zone (luckily none landed on me!).
On to the Red Wings game... had seats in a suite! Really cool view, plus free food and drinks. Hubby was lovin' it! He's been to a few games at Joe Lewis Arena before, but this was his first NHL playoff game (mine too!) Red Wings won 4-0! The opposing team was the Columbus Blue Jackets... how funny is that!?! I was just thrilled that the game didn't go into overtime... seems almost every hockey game I attend goes into overtime. Hubby calls it "free time". Whatever! I say it's "too much time... get this game finished!" HA HA!!
After the game we drove all the way back home... made for a very long day!
This sure sounded like a fun day. Glad no butterflies landed on you. So you are going to be involved in graduation at NWMC, how neat. This time as part of the faculty. (cool) Bet when you graduated at OSU you would have never guessed that you'd be in a graduation ceremony in one of those schools up north! HA!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh reading about your time at the hockey game. Did "Mrs I don't really like sports" TRULY ENJOY her experience? Sure sounds like it to me! hehe! Hubby needs to take you to their next game. Ok, maybe I am pushing it a bit.
