I've long had an interest in Mt. Everest. Read lots of books, met and talked to climbers and trekkers, attended speaking engagements, watched movies. Hubby would say it's more a fascination with death - since so many that actually try to climb the mountain die!
Whatever sparked my fascination I can't explain, but I want to see that mountain with my own eyes... I want to know the experience of being at the base of the world's tallest mountain. And so I've decided that I want to go trekking in Nepal!
This would be no easy feat, as it's a ton of walking in an environment that will be extremely strenuous and challenging... and yet, I've been told it's also an environment of such indescribable beauty!
Since moving to Traverse City, I've met several people that have been to Nepal, trekked in Nepal or have relatives in Nepal. I've also had the opportunity to attend more speaking engagements concerning the Himalayas. At first it all seemed coincidental, but upon further thought I don't think it's coincidental at all.
At a recent doctor's appointment, my doctor and I started talking about long-term health and having goals... I ended up telling her I have this crazy dream of wanting to trek in Nepal. She was so excited to hear this, as she's done just that... been trekking in Nepal! She went on to tell me that it's not a crazy dream - that it would be a wonderful goal for me to have... and she'd love to know that I'd go! She shared that of all the places she's gone, Nepal was the most wonderful place.
So... now it's up to me... and if I can get serious enough to buckle down and start getting myself in shape for such a trip. It's not a matter or can or can't... it's a matter of how much I want it. Cause if you want something bad enough, you make it happen. Hubby has been 100% supportive; as he always is of my adventurous ideas.
And so I put this in print for two reasons... 1) for me to see and remember when it became more than just a far fetched dream of mine, and 2) because putting it out there makes it more more plausible, more possible.
Side note: I only want to see the mountain and reach base camp, I have no deadly desire to try to climb her!
