Earthquake

Picture of California or Northern Michigan?

I've often told friends and family there are areas in Northern Michigan that remind me of California. We have beautiful sandy beaches with towering cliffs over Lake Michigan's crystal blue water. M22 is a scenic winding drive hugging Lake Michigan's shoreline... very similar to PCH1 (Pacific Coast Highway 1).

Today we have one more thing in common with California... EARTHQUAKES! Yes, it's true.

According to USA Today:

"A magnitude-5.0 earthquake centered near the Ontario-Quebec border shook southeastern Canada and several U.S. states this afternoon. Buildings in Toronto and Ottawa were evacuated, as was Parliament Hill, the CBC News reports. Windows at Ottawa's City Hall shattered.

The Toronto Globe & Mail reports that Twitter users as far away as Springfield, Mass., and Traverse City,. Mich., reported feeling tremors."

Hubby felt it at his office building around 1:45pm... so much so that the building was evacuated voluntarily. He's on the 4th floor and said you could definitely tell the building was moving. What a surreal experience! And to think... in Northern Michigan!

(For those of you wondering... I didn't feel it!)

  1. Jeff had the same experience!! He is on the top (4th) floor as well and said he honestly felt the building sway. I was in Dayton, but didn't feel a thing. My brother also felt it in NE Ohio. Weird!!
