Mariners Memorial Service

Hubby and I attended the Mariners Memorial Service at NMC's Great Lakes Maritime Academy today.  It was the 35th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald... and one of NMC's past cadets, David Weiss, was on the Fitz when it sank.

Hubby and I are fascinated with the lake freighters (which we see at our property in the U.P.), so attending this service was special to us.

TRAVERSE CITY – The community is invited to attend the 35th annual Mariners Memorial Service at noon Wednesday, Nov. 10 in the courtyard of the Great Lakes Maritime Academy at NMC's Great Lakes Campus.
The memorial service is held to remember and honor mariners who have perished on the Great Lakes and oceans and is sponsored by the Student Propeller Club, Port 150, of the Great Lakes Maritime Academy.
The service will begin with a flyover by the U.S. Coast Guard at noon, and include guest speaker John Hayes, Engineering Superintendent for Grand River Navigation, and soloist Holly Olszewski singing the Mariner's Hymn.
