X-rays showed no kidney stones. Thank goodness! But the urine sample (in which they turned Rilee over on her belly and stuck a long needle directly into her bladder to extract urine) showed crystals. Crystals tend to be an indicator of kidney stones.
The vet said the brand of food we are feeding Rilee is a good brand... so no changes there. The water that we give her is from the well at the rental we are currently in. I won't drink the water because we never had the well tested and as old and dumpy as this place is... I don't trust the water. The vet said it might be a good idea to stop giving Rilee water from the well and give her bottled water, which is fine, cause we buy bottled water for us to drink anyway. But seriously... what a pampered pooch... she is now drinking BOTTLED WATER! ha ha!!
The vet sent Rilee's urine sample off to a lab to have the crystals analyzed and a complete work-up done. This should help to determine if her PH levels are normally high, etc., etc. It will give us a baseline for future things that come up.
She's doing fine... didn't even mind the long needle, cause the vet tech rubbed her belly while the procedure was done and that seemed to work for her!
Yeah, I've seen that procedure done a zillion times, it's really no big deal, they just do that to get a sterile sample. I think I even got to try and do that a time or two when I worked for Dr. Burton many years ago. Usually the animals don't really mind it at all, it's pretty quick. It just looks awful to us people.
